Sensory Garden

Immerse your Senses!

A sensory garden aims to provide therapy to visitors by inviting them to attend to plants that embody the five senses. Each of the five beds take you on a journey through their defining characteristic – be it smell, taste, touch, sound or sight. The plants themselves encourage you to live in the moment of their wondrous qualities.

RLHS, in partnership with Rideau Lakes Township, has installed such a garden at the Elgin Municipal Complex, adjacent to the Post Office and new children’s play area.

Madeline, our President, designed the garden. The municipality built and installed the plant boxes. RLHS organized plant donations and purchases, as well as the soil and signage, with the help of a municipal grant. Three volunteers (Yvonne, Sabina and Madeline) planted the garden in late June. Everyone is invited to come experience the garden on their travels within and through Elgin.
